Broner hits back at Shawn Porter and insists he's not scared
WITH retirement looming for Floyd Mayweather, thoughts turn to who will take over from him at the top of the welterweight division. Errol Spence states his case here. As Adrien Broner rose through championship reigns at different weights, his slick skills and brash personality marked him out as a potential heir to Mayweather. His defeat to Marcos Maidana however meant he lost his unbeaten record. Not that it seems to have humbled him particularly.
“I will not be the next Floyd Mayweather. I will be the first and only Adrien Broner,” he declared.
Broner hit back at Shawn Porter, who accused him (see here) of being scared to fight at 147lbs. The two will meet on Saturday at an 144lbs catchweight. “I don’t know why I would be terrified of Porter. I’m not terrified of anything. He can talk, it’s all okay,” said Adrien.
“Porter can’t beat me, it’s not going to happen.”
